Anthropic released Claude Opus 5 on July 24, 2026, describing it as a step-change over Opus 4.8 for agentic coding and computer use. Crucially, it keeps Opus pricing unchanged at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output — half the price of the company's frontier Fable 5 model — making frontier-class capability far cheaper to run.
Specs and availability
Opus 5 ships with a 1-million-token context window, up to 128K output tokens, extended thinking enabled by default, and a knowledge cutoff of May 2026 — the most current of any Claude model. It becomes the new default on Claude Max and the strongest model available on Claude Pro, offered through the Claude apps and API.
