Midjourney is widely regarded as one of the highest-quality AI image generators available. It runs through both a Discord bot and a web app at midjourney.com, and has become a standard tool among designers, art directors and studios.

The platform's default model moved from V7 to V8.1 in 2026, and Midjourney has since launched a V8.2 image model and a V8.2 edit model built into the lightbox editor, along with native 2K HD rendering.

Raw mode allows literal prompt interpretation for users who want precise technical control rather than the model's default stylistic interpretation. The platform also includes public creator profiles and a social feed for discovering other users' generations.

Billing is based on fast GPU hours rather than a fixed image count. Basic costs $10/month ($8/month if billed annually at $96/year), Standard is $30/month ($24/month annually, $288/year), Pro is $60/month ($48/month annually, $576/year), and Mega is $120/month ($96/month annually, $1,152/year) — each tier roughly 20% cheaper when paid annually. Extra fast GPU hours can be purchased for $4 each and do not expire.

There is no free plan or trial. The Basic tier includes only 3.3 hours (200 minutes) of fast GPU time per month, after which generations either use the slower Relax queue (on higher tiers) or require additional purchased hours. The web interface still carries some Discord-era UX conventions compared to fully independent platforms.

Midjourney suits designers, artists and studios whose work depends on the visual quality of the output rather than raw generation speed or the lowest possible price.
