Gemini Notebook, formerly known as NotebookLM, is a research and note-taking tool from Google. You upload your own material — PDFs, documents, slides, web pages, YouTube videos, notes — and it answers questions, summarizes, and builds study aids using only those sources, with citations back to the original text.
On July 16, 2026, Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook and moved the app from notebooklm.google.com to notebook.google.com, with marketing now at notebook.google. Notebooks now sync with the Gemini app, and Google has announced an upcoming integration with AI Mode in Search. Google AI Premium was renamed Google AI Plus around the same time.
The rename came with new capabilities: each notebook can get a secure cloud computer that writes and runs code natively for data analysis. This is available now to Google AI Ultra and Workspace AI Ultra/Expanded Access subscribers, with access for AI Pro on web rolling out over the following weeks. You can export to editable PDFs with charts and tables, PowerPoint, Excel, and CSV/JSON, and generate images. Video Overviews now sit alongside the existing Audio Overviews and podcast-style summaries.
Gemini Notebook is free to use with any Google account. Higher source and notebook limits come with a paid Google AI plan: Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro at $19.99 per month, or Google AI Ultra starting at $99.99 per month (5x the Pro quota) or $199.99 per month (20x the Pro quota). There is no standalone paid Gemini Notebook subscription — the paid tiers come through the wider Google AI, Workspace, or Cloud plans.
The main caveats: the most advanced features, including the cloud computer and code execution, are initially limited to AI Ultra and Workspace tiers, so the free plan remains more limited. Source and notebook limits per plan are described only in relative terms (large, larger, largest) rather than published as exact numbers. And because answers are grounded in your uploaded sources, the tool is only as good as the material you give it.
It suits students, researchers, analysts, and knowledge workers who need reliable, cited answers over a defined body of documents rather than open-ended web chat.
