Devin Desktop (Windsurf)

Devin Desktop, formerly known as Windsurf, is an AI-native code editor built by Cognition. It combines an autocomplete engine (Tab), inline edits, and autonomous coding agents inside a VS Code-style workspace. Windsurf for JetBrains continues to be offered under the original Windsurf name.

The product was renamed from Windsurf to Devin Desktop on June 2, 2026, after Cognition and Windsurf came together. windsurf.com and codeium.com/windsurf now redirect to devin.ai/desktop. The in-editor agent picker currently lists several selectable agents, including Devin Local, Codex, Claude Agent, OpenCode and Cascade, so the original Cascade agent is still available rather than retired.

On the model side, SWE-2 is the current in-house model, released September 10, 2026, replacing the earlier SWE-1.6. Paid tiers also unlock access to models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, SpaceXAI, and leading open-source models, along with Devin Cloud agents for longer background tasks and Devin Review for automated code review.

Pricing runs on daily and weekly quotas rather than the older credit system. Free is $0 per month with a light agent quota, limited model access, and unlimited Tab completions and inline edits. Pro is $20 per month with increased quotas, full model access, Devin Cloud agents, up to 10 concurrent sessions, and free use of SWE-2 through October 16, 2026 as a limited-time offer. Max is $200 per month with significantly higher quotas. Teams costs $80 per month as a base plus $40 per month per developer seat for up to 200 users, and Enterprise pricing is custom with SSO and VPC deployment.

The main caveats are churn and lock-in: the rebrand from Windsurf to Devin Desktop, and the move from credits to quotas, mean workflows and limits have shifted within the same year. Heavy agent use can burn through quotas quickly, and the free access to SWE-2 on Pro is time-limited rather than permanent. Much of the product's value now sits behind the Devin ecosystem.

It suits developers who want an agent-first editor with strong autocomplete and are comfortable working inside the Cognition/Devin ecosystem. Anyone still looking for the original Windsurf branding or credit-based pricing should know those have changed, though Windsurf branding persists in the JetBrains plugin.
