Manus is an autonomous AI agent platform that gained widespread attention in early 2025 for its ability to complete long-horizon tasks without step-by-step human instruction, such as web research, code execution, and file management.
As of September 1, 2026, Manus's own blog states that the company has resumed independent operations and that the founding team continues to lead it, following what the company describes as a temporary interruption to access during which users needed to back up and restore their data.
The current release, Manus 2.0, published September 28, 2026, introduces a new architecture and product set. The Cascade agent harness uses 23.2% fewer tokens, completes tasks 28.2% faster, and costs 32% less than the previous iteration. New products include Cloud Computer, which provides always-on servers for continuous task execution; Automations, which trigger agent tasks from events in email, calendar, or Slack; Manus Studio, a desktop workspace that adds Video Editor and Game Dev tools; and Cue, a standalone personal agent app available separately. Manus 2.0 is available across web, desktop, and mobile.
Manus is sold on paid monthly plans: a $20/month tier with 300 daily refresh credits, 4,000 credits/month, 20 concurrent tasks and 20 scheduled tasks; a $40/month tier with a customizable credit allotment starting around 8,000 credits/month; and a $200/month tier with 40,000 credits/month for heavier usage. Custom Teams & Businesses plans are also available. There is no free tier for the main Manus product listed on its pricing page, though the separate Cue app is described as free to use with an invite code during early access.
Limitations include occasional errors on ambiguous tasks that still require human review, credit consumption that can add up quickly on long or complex workflows, and the disruption around the 2026 interruption to service. Manus is best suited to power users and small teams who need an AI agent that can complete multi-step tasks autonomously across the web, cloud, and local files without continuous supervision.
