The current focus is on AI: more than 400 AI-powered animated tutorials with voiceover, deeper explanations, contextual hints in the Plus tier, ongoing expansion toward college-level topics, and closer ties to Google Lens and the Gemini assistant. Pricing is freemium. The core app is free with unlimited step-by-step solutions, camera scan and calculator, no ads and no time limit. Photomath Plus costs $9.99 per month or $69.99 per year (about $5.83/month, roughly 50% off), with a six-month option in some markets and a 7-day free trial. Plus adds the animated tutorials, richer explanations and contextual hints.

Limitations are worth noting. Handwriting recognition can misread messy notation, word problems remain harder than clean equations, the deepest teaching content sits behind the paywall, and being tied to Google now means your account and data flow through Google's ecosystem.

Photomath suits students who want to understand method, not just copy answers, as well as parents helping with homework and anyone who needs to check work quickly. If you only want a final number, a plain calculator is enough; Photomath earns its place when you want the steps.
