Figma AI

Figma AI is not a standalone product but a layer of generative features woven into the Figma design editor. It covers prompt-to-design and prompt-to-prototype workflows, AI image generation and editing, text rewriting and translation, and First Draft for turning a brief into an initial layout. The headline feature is Figma Make, which turns a written prompt into a working, interactive prototype and can connect to a Supabase backend to build functional apps. As of October 6, 2026, the on-canvas Figma agent and the Weave suite of AI workflows for imagery, video and audio moved from open beta to general availability and now consume AI credits like the rest of the AI feature set.

Figma moved these AI features out of a free, effectively unlimited beta and into a metered AI-credit economy shared across all its AI tools. AI credits are available across all plans, including the free Starter tier, though the Figma agent has only limited availability there.

Capability-wise, this consolidates most of Figma's AI story in one place: generate a first draft, iterate with Make, produce or edit images, rewrite and translate copy, chat with the on-canvas agent, and hand off to real design files. Credits are consumed per action, though the exact cost per action is not published.

The free Starter plan is capped at 150 credits per day and 500 per month, with unlimited drafts. Professional seats are $20 (Full), $15 (Dev) and $5 (Collab) per month when billed monthly, or $16, $12 and $3 per month when billed annually; a Full seat adds 3,000 AI credits per month, while Dev and Collab seats each add 500. Organization seats are $55 (Full), $25 (Dev) and $5 (Collab) per month, billed annually, adding up to 3,500 credits. Enterprise seats are $90 (Full), $35 (Dev) and $5 (Collab) per month, billed annually, adding up to 4,250 credits. Beyond the monthly allotment, additional usage is available as a pay-as-you-go or subscription-based credit add-on; those add-on credit multipliers were increased on August 25, 2026 at the same price.

The main limitation is exactly that metering: heavy AI users can burn through credits quickly, and the daily cap on the free tier makes sustained experimentation hard. Output quality from Make and First Draft is a starting point, not a finished design, and still needs a designer's hand.

Figma AI makes the most sense for teams already living in Figma who want AI woven into their existing files rather than a separate tool. If you rarely touch AI, the free allotment may be enough; if AI is central to your workflow, budget for a paid tier and possible overage, and factor in whether you can commit to annual billing for the lower Professional rate.
