Gemini

Gemini is Google's family of AI models and the consumer assistant built on top of them, available on the web, in the mobile app, and inside Workspace apps like Gmail, Docs and Sheets. It handles conversation, document analysis, image generation, coding and live voice interaction.

As of October 2026 the flagship model is Gemini 4 Argon, announced September 30, 2026 for vetted cyber defenders and made generally available on October 13, 2026. The newest Flash model is Gemini 3.8 Flash, which reached general availability on September 2, 2026, and the current image model is Nano Banana 2.1, released October 6, 2026. The older Gemini 3.7 Flash and 3.5 Flash models were retired from the API on October 8, 2026.

Gemini 4 Argon accepts text, images, video, audio and PDF input and produces text output, with a combined input and output limit of roughly 1 million tokens. It is available in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Google Search for AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. The Gemini app also added a tasks mode and connections to more than 40 external apps on October 13, 2026. In AI Studio and Antigravity, Argon is offered to AI Ultra subscribers, while AI Pro users need a separately paid API key to use it there.

Pricing in the Gemini app (US, monthly) runs: Free at $0, which includes the Flash-Lite model; Google AI Plus at $4.99, which includes the Flash model; Google AI Pro at $19.99, which includes Gemini 4 Argon plus Pro and Flash models; and Google AI Ultra at $99.99 for 5x AI Pro usage limits or $199.99 for 20x limits. Gemini 4 Argon is not available on the Free or Plus tiers. Through the API, Argon is billed at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens until November 30, 2026, rising to $4 and $20 after that date; cached input is discounted, batch and flex processing is half price, and there is no free API tier for Argon.

Limitations include confusing naming across models and tiers (Flash, Pro, Argon, Plus, Ultra), the fact that the flagship Argon model is locked behind the Pro or Ultra subscriptions, the need for a separate paid API key if AI Pro users want Argon in AI Studio or Antigravity, and a scheduled API price increase at the end of November 2026.

Gemini suits people already inside Google's Workspace ecosystem, those who want chat plus image generation in one place, and developers who want pay-per-token access to Google's current flagship model.
