Vibe is the consumer-facing AI assistant from French lab Mistral. It started life as Le Chat and, on August 12, 2026, was rebranded to Vibe; the URL (chat.mistral.ai), your login, and all existing plans and conversations carried over, so nothing was lost in the switch.
As of its May 2026 announcement, the product runs on Mistral Medium 3.5, a 128B-parameter model with a 256k-token context window, released with open weights under a modified MIT license. Mistral separately announced a newer model, Large 4, in October 2026, but it is not confirmed whether this has replaced Medium 3.5 as Vibe's default.
Vibe is built around three modes. Vibe Chat is the classic turn-based conversation, essentially the old Le Chat. Vibe Work is an agent mode with persistent memory that executes multi-step workflows across connected tools, asking for your approval before it takes sensitive actions. Vibe Code provides remote coding agents that run asynchronously in the cloud and let you move a session from your local machine to the cloud.
Pricing starts with a free plan that includes limited messages, web searches and coding sessions, image generation, Mistral Studio access, $10 per month in API credits, access to 100+ connectors, and up to 5 scheduled tasks. The Pro plan is $14.99 per month (shown in USD with an EUR option) and adds more messages, all-day coding across CLI, IDE and web, up to 15GB of libraries, and included API credits. Team is $24.99 per user per month with a $50 per month minimum and up to 30GB of storage per user, plus domain verification and data export. Enterprise is custom-priced with private deployments, custom models, audit logs, SSO and white-labelling. Verified students at accredited institutions can get an Education plan at $5.99 per month for up to 12 months.
Worth knowing: the exact amount of included API credit on the Team plan is not clearly stated on the pricing page, and the free plan's usage limits on messages, searches and coding sessions will push regular users toward a paid tier fairly quickly.
Vibe suits people who want a European-built assistant with open-weight models, and teams that want agentic workflows and cloud coding agents rather than a plain chatbot. If you only need occasional Q&A, the free tier may be enough to start.
