Suno

Suno is a text-to-music tool that writes, arranges and performs a song from a short description or your own lyrics. You type a prompt, pick a style, and it returns finished tracks with vocals and backing instrumentation in about a minute. It also now offers Suno Speech (beta), which generates spoken voice and original background music together as one track from an idea, a poem, or your own writing.

The current model is v6, launched September 9, 2026 and described by Suno as developed with industry partners including Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe. Paid plans run v6 and v6-wild; the free plan runs the lighter v6-mini. Prior model versions are being retired. On October 1, 2026, Suno opened Speech to beta for all users in the Suno app, which it describes as its first audio model that generates voice and music together as one cohesive track.

Day to day, the tool covers the full loop: generation from a prompt, custom lyrics, style and persona control, Voices for recording or uploading your own singing voice, Custom Models that fine-tune the system to your own catalogue (Pro and Premier), stem separation on paid plans, and audio upload to extend or remix existing material. Premier also includes Suno Studio, with MIDI, effects and automation tools.

Pricing runs on a credit system. Free is $0 per month with 50 credits per day for personal, non-commercial use, no stem separation, 8-minute uploads, and no regular monthly song downloads (accounts that joined before September 3, 2026 may get limited lifetime trial downloads). Pro is $10 per month, or $8 per month billed annually ($96 per year), for 2,500 credits a month, 20 song downloads a month, commercial use rights, two stem types, 30-minute uploads and a priority queue. Premier is $30 per month, or $24 per month billed annually ($288 per year), for 10,000 credits a month, 60 song downloads a month (unlimited inside Suno Studio), commercial use, three stem types and Suno Studio.

The main limitations are that regular downloads are no longer part of the free plan, so testing the output beyond streaming requires a paid subscription, and even paid plans cap downloads per month. Suno Speech's plan limits, credit cost and supported platforms have not been published yet. Suno is also facing active litigation: a US federal judge in Massachusetts denied its motion to dismiss copyright and DMCA claims on September 28, 2026, which adds uncertainty around commercial use.

Suno suits hobbyists experimenting with ideas and musicians who want fast demos or reference tracks, content creators who need commercial-use tracks and are willing to pay for a plan with enough monthly downloads, and anyone wanting to try spoken-word audio through the new Speech beta, while accepting the current legal uncertainty.
