Google announced on October 19 that Gemini Notebook, the research notebook formerly called NotebookLM, now gives more control over two of its outputs: Slide Decks and Video Overviews. Until now a prompt went straight to a finished deck or video.
What changes
Guided start: you ask for slides or a video in the chat, and Notebook suggests topics drawn from your sources. After you confirm, you refine the content and pick the visual style and format.
Review step: with the review toggle on, you see the plan in the studio panel before anything is rendered: "Review outline notes" for slides and "Review producer notes" for videos. You can ask for changes, such as an executive summary at the start or a different order of scenes, and then choose Proceed.
Fast path: if you already know what you want, describe it in the prompt, or skip the toggle and generate from the studio panel as before.
Google says the feature is rolling out to all Gemini Notebook users worldwide over the coming week. The post does not mention plan limits.
What this means if you make presentations from research
If your material is a set of documents, the review step is the main gain: you can fix the structure before spending a generation.
If you need a polished, editable deck with design control, a dedicated tool like Gamma still does more.
